The Story of Hijack Sandals
It was the year 2010. In an era when leather shoes dictated the rhythm of urban lifestyles, a quiet whisper emerged from an unexpected place—so faint it was almost inaudible.
While the world strode forward in polished shoes with confidence, we paused, looked down at our feet, and noticed a quieter presence—sandals.
But these were not just sandals as objects. They were sandals as memories. As rituals. As traces of culture.
In Indonesian households, sandals are found at the very beginning of stories—at the doorstep, in the mosque courtyard, in the backyard where children run barefoot. They are quietly worn amid silence, laughter, hurried steps, and slow afternoons.
Despite being deeply interwoven into daily life, sandals have been overlooked in the world of design. Too commonplace to be praised, too humble to be reconsidered.
We chose to question that assumption.
Hijack Sandals was not born from a desire to chase trends. From the very beginning, it was a deliberate deviation—a conscious choice to avoid the paved road and instead walk a more meaningful, unpaved path.
What we create is not merely a product.
We aim to challenge the hierarchy of design, to shine a light on what has long been disregarded, and to restore dignity to the “ordinary.”
We believe that culture resides in the small things we hold in our hands every day.
That even the most modest objects, when approached with thought, care, and imagination, can carry the weight of history and hold the potential for change.
So we began to walk—not with flamboyance, but with care. Not with flashiness, but with attention to detail.
Each pair of sandals we create is a conversation—between materials and makers, between tradition and technique, between the foot and the ground.
Hijack is not just a brand.
It is a quiet revolution in form.
And still, we keep walking. We keep searching.
As long as there is ground to touch and meaning to uncover, this journey will not end.
Even if it means going against the current—no, precisely because of that—this path is worth following.
